Type 2 diabetes, at doses up to 2.0 mg weekly. Weight management is not its authorised indication in Canada — that is Wegovy, which is the same molecule titrated to 2.4 mg. Prescribing Ozempic for weight management alone is off-label, which is permitted but is a clinical judgement the prescriber makes and documents.
Substantially, in the Canadian programs we track — generic semaglutide starts around $149 a month against $250 to $400 for brand-name programs. Health Canada authorised the generic on demonstrated bioequivalence, so the active ingredient and strengths are the same.
